The
feeling of being in a comedy club can now engulf you anywhere, without the
two drink minimum with Nothing Special, the debut album by comedian
Michael Malone.
Regarded as one of the most creative comics working today, Malone not only
tickles but drills in to your funny bone.
The topical _base_ for Malone is wide ranging and nothing is off limits in
his dangerously outrageous brand of comedy. A high amount of Malone’s
material comes from his own life and past relationships as well as more
global issues like the war.
“The real reason for the war is NASCAR, if we weren’t wasting all that
fuel driving around in circles every Sunday we’d have no business over in
Iraq,” Malone said.
Though he holds no political aspirations, Malone claims to know how to
finally catch Bin Laden and put an end to the war on terror. “All you have
to do is take NASCAR off the air just for one day with Bin Laden’s picture
on the screen and text that says, ‘This man took away your NASCAR.”
The laughter from Malone’s routine will leave your body feeling as if it
just raced in the Indy 500.
Men will want to hear Nothing Special because if for no other reason,
Malone reveals the secret to keeping the spark alive in a relationship and
the intimate desires burning through the morning, day and night. While
Oprah, Dr. Phil and others try to fill the role its Malone who proves
himself to be the expert on a achieving a life filled with love.
In addition, Malone tackles the important issue of watching too much
porno, which he admittedly is guilty of. A problem he became aware of when
he began paying more attention to the furniture in the scene rather than
the actors.
Mixed in with his routine, which was recorded during a live performance in
front of an audience, the album also includes two Real Beer Ad’s. Which
takes away all the glitz and glamour portrayed on the actual commercials
for alcoholic beverages and portrays the cruel things that can be
inflicted upon you from friends while drunk. And as always, cruelty is
funny when someone else is the victim.
There is also a song that Malone would expect to be played in a gay bar,
which can only be heard on Nothing Special.
The effort to expand into areas beyond just the stand-up is admirable and
provides a nice variety to the album.
For adult listeners, the material isn’t suggested for children due to
language.
The album is only one of the bright spots in Malone’s ever growing career
as he is also part of the Outspoken Comedy Tour, featuring the top comics
from the Midwest. On November 28th it will hit the Funny Bone at the
Greene for one night only.
Malone will then be back at the Funny Bone for a solo performance December
5-8. All are encouraged to come for a night of laughs.
For instant gratification Nothing Special is available on iTunes and at
his website
www.malonecomedy.com.
Despite the _title_, there is something special about Malone and in time
the whole world will be blessed by his talents.
